Medications

During the school year some students require prescribed medication during school hours.  If your child has an ongoing condition or requires ongoing medication an Action Plan must be completed at the beginning of the school year, or as soon as possible after a condition is diagnosed. Action Plans can be obtained from the School Office. These are then kept on the students’ record and the information is made available to school staff as required e.g. excursions.

If your child requires any medication to be administered, written authority and instructions must be received by the school. Medication should be delivered to the school in an appropriate sealable container that is clearly labelled with the student’s name and the prescribed dosage and the time of day it is to be administered. A medicine glass/spoon/tablet cutter should be provided where necessary. Children must take responsibility to come to the school office for their medication, they will not be reminded.

No child will be given paracetamol, Panadol etc unless it is provided with the appropriate instructions.

Please Note: An exception to the above applies to the administration of an inhaler for the emergency treatment of an asthma attack or suspected asthma attack.

Montessori

Yarralumla Montessori is part of Yarralumla Primary School. It offers a Cycle One Montessori program for children aged 3-6. There are two multi-age classrooms of 25 children each. Children who turn 3 before 30 April are eligible to begin and stay for three years, attending for five full days in Red Group (their third year, equivalent to kindergarten) before moving on to primary school.

Montessori provides an education which caters for the social, emotional and academic needs of each child. It is based on the educational philosophy of Maria Montessori, the eminent Italian doctor, educator and humanitarian who observed that, when given freedom to work in a carefully prepared and stimulating environment, children actively construct their own knowledge.

The curriculum is based on practices and principles outlined in the Montessori Curriculum, the Montessori Early Years Program (which is aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework - Belonging, Being and Becoming) and the Australian Curriculum.

Music Tuition

Piano and Guitar tuition is available for students during school hours. Please contact the School Office for more information.
